RETURNS & REFUNDS

Returns & Refunds

We want you to be happy with your purchase from The Model Shop Portsmouth. If something isn't right, or you've simply changed your mind, the information below explains how we can help.

Damaged or faulty goods

If your order arrives damaged, faulty or not as described, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can help resolve the problem.

Where possible, please provide photographs of the item, packaging and any visible damage. We may ask you to return the item to us so that we can assess the problem.

Depending on the circumstances, we may arrange a repair, replacement or refund. Where an item is faulty, damaged or not as described, we will deal with the return in accordance with your statutory rights and will cover reasonable return costs where appropriate.

Some products may also be covered by a manufacturer's warranty. A manufacturer's warranty does not affect your statutory rights.

Pre-owned goods

We sell a range of pre-owned model railway items, models, accessories and other hobby products. Each item is individually described and photographs are provided to help you assess its condition before purchase.

Because pre-owned items have been previously owned, they may show signs of use, age, storage or handling. Minor cosmetic marks or other signs of previous use that are consistent with the described condition are not necessarily faults.

Where appropriate, we will identify known defects, missing parts, damage, wear or other significant condition issues in the product description. Please read the product description and review all photographs carefully before purchasing.

Non-running items

Where a pre-owned locomotive or other item is specifically described as non-running, it is being sold on that basis unless the product listing states otherwise. We cannot guarantee that a non-running item can be repaired or that repair will be economically viable.

Where an item is described as tested or working, this reflects the testing we have carried out and the condition of the item at the time of testing.

Nothing in this section affects your statutory rights. A pre-owned item may still be eligible for an appropriate remedy where it is faulty, not as described or otherwise does not meet applicable consumer law requirements

Changed your mind?

If you buy from us online, you generally have the right to cancel your order within 14 days of receiving your goods, without giving a reason.

Once you have told us that you wish to cancel, you normally have a further 14 days to return the goods to us.

Please contact us before returning your order so that we can provide the appropriate return information.

You are entitled to handle goods to the extent necessary to establish their nature, characteristics and functionality, in much the same way as you would be able to in a shop. If goods have been handled beyond what is reasonably necessary and their value has been reduced as a result, we may be entitled to make a deduction from the refund.

Return postage for unwanted goods

If you are returning an item because you have changed your mind, or because you ordered the wrong item, you will normally be responsible for the cost of returning the goods to us.

If an item is faulty, damaged or not as described, please contact us before returning it so that we can advise you about the return arrangements.

Proof of purchase

We may ask for proof of purchase when dealing with a return or refund.

This could include your order number, receipt, order confirmation, email confirmation or other reasonable evidence of purchase.
