The Upholder Class submarine was developed for the Royal Navy as a modern diesel-electric attack submarine designed to replace the Oberon class. Compact, capable and engineered for North Atlantic operations, the class represented the Royal Navy’s final conventional submarine programme before the transition to an all-nuclear fleet.

Following Royal Navy service, the vessels were transferred to Canada, where they continue to operate as the Victoria Class — extending the legacy of this distinctive and historically significant design.
